맥용 드롭박스, OS X 10.5 이하 버전 지원 중단

드롭박스가 맥 OS X 10.5 이하 버전을 지원 중단 하겠다는 이메일이 사용자들에게 날라왔습니다. 즉, OS X 10.5 이하 버전의 OS X를 사용하는 사용자들은 더 높은 버전의 OS X로 업데이트 해야 맥용 드롭박스 앱을 사용할 수 있다는 얘기겠죠. 

OS X 10.5 이하 버전을 사용하는 사용자들 중 OS X 업데이트가 가능한 맥을 사용하고 있다면 큰 문제가 될 것이 없겠지만, 파워 맥 같이 맥 자체가 OS X 10.6 이상의 버전을 지원하지 않는 맥을 사용하고 있다면 맨 하늘에 날벼락 같은 소식이 되겠습니다. 

그나마 다행스러운 부분은, OS X 10.5 이하 버전의 사용자들도 웹 기반 드롭박스는 계속 사용할 수 있다는 것입니다. 물론 전용 앱을 사용하는 것보다는 불편하겠지만, 아예 사용 할 방법이 없는 것보다는 나을 것 같습니다. 

한편 이러한 방침은 2015년 3월 18일부터 시행될 예정이라고 합니다. 아직 이에 대해 대비할 시간은 많이 남았지만 자금이 허락해주지 않는다면 어떻게 해야 할지 난감할 것 같습니다. 사용자들에게는 보낸 이메일은 아래와 같습니다.

Hi, 

We noticed that you’re running the Dropbox desktop application (client) on an older operating system (OS X Tiger 10.4 or OS X Leopard 10.5). We’re writing to let you know that as of May 18th, Dropbox will no longer support these older versions of OS X. 

Don’t worry — your files and photos aren’t going anywhere! But you’ll need to update your computer to OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 or later to access them through the Dropbox desktop app. Apple’s instructions on how to update your operating system can be found here. 

If you don’t want to update your operating system, your files will still be available through the Dropbox website. However, on May 18th you’ll be signed out of your Dropbox account on your computer and the Dropbox desktop application will no longer be accessible. We apologize for the inconvenience.
